Generator research recently predicted that the wordwide market for mobile payment will be $633.4 billion by 2014, in 2009 it was $68.7 billion. thats the enormous difference in years to come, when i think about mobile payment, but i get different ideas how this payment transaction take place – like transfering a amount via installed application to the account, using the mobile browser and make payment online, charge customer with their mobile bill, in more advance using the mobile handset itself like we swipe our credit card, show mobile over payment instrument similar to credit card swiping.

but one thing for sure the mobile payment has enormous growth within, by seeing apps market for apple, android and other, there will be more applications coming up – we need a unified body to monitor all the transaction, probably paypal, visa, mastercards will take over.

In continuation with my past blog entry on Customer Care – Using GPS of customers calling number, today i read a interesting blog post at gigaom on how mobile location is getting important in recent times.

the location identification is very important. google map is already doing it perfectly with the help of google latitude, showing where our friends, wikipedia details for the location, location based search.

there are other apps too. but in my opinion the the kind of investment or interest shown in this sector is very slow or less, there can be even more applications,

“An estimated 63 million mobile phone users upgraded to smartphones from feature phones in 2008, from approximately 15 million upgrades in 2005 – Kate Imbach, Gigaom.com”

this area need to be evolved more, location based social networks, general or emergency assistance, paid services etc, even news papers(how long our people will read generic news lets go next generation guys)

social networking sites can take more plunge here, by developing a applications that relate people based on location, provide some sort of assistances based on location, just imagine..

  1. lets say i am going to wash car this weekend, but I’m bored to do it alone, any of my “good” friend is so bored than me and say’s he can join me in the activity – ;)
  2. sitting in a coffee shop, there’s a nice song but i don’t know any details about it, just ask it the app, someone in few tables away say what song it is.
  3. shopping for best deal
  4. free movie tickets
  5. free ride from one location to another by sharing the ride with someone already moving in that direction.

some existing players already:

http://www.qiro.net / – German, location based social network

http://zyb.com/lang/en/  – sync’s your friends and their social networks in one place

http://gowalla.com/  – discover places

http://www.aka-aki.com  – find love and friends

http://brightkite.com/  – meet people around you

http://foursquare.com/  – find friends

http://www.gypsii.com/  – GPS location based mobile community

http://www.loopt.com/ – who is similar around you or what to do and what to eat

know any other mobile app players do these stuff?

quite sometime i have been searching for some good to-do list manager that similar to agendus which i used with palm tx for my nokia E71(s60 rd), but search went vain. i tried:-

  • in built calendar / to-do
  • handy calendar

mobile_taskshome

inbuilt doesnt have good interface and readability, i hate those “TOO BIG” look for todo list. and handy calendar solved this problem, by importing birthdays from contact file, then have nice customizable interface – i love this one, but one thing is lacking “category” though this is not big “put down” but still i felt handicapped i without it. then…

then i found this one “upvise” yesterday, the business version is really good. they are giving one month trial period and you need to 49USD for 1 year license, this will work offline as well. dont know if i will be willling to pay 49$ every year. just giving it a try, has iphone kind of interface, easy to get use to it, syncs with their website.
